Autologous fat transfer is a procedure which involves Fat taken from an area (or area’s) of the body where it may be unwanted, and transplanted to area’s of the face or body where it is needed.
Body fat makes excellent soft tissue filler substance. AFT transfers fat from one part of the body to another to recontour the face or to fill out depressed scarred areas on any part of the body. Fat injection is semi-permanent and may require subsequent sessions or maintenance program.
Procedure
Fat injections can be done under local or sedation anesthesia. Using small syringes, fat is harvested from the hip, inner or outer thigh, lower back, or lower abdomen. The fat is then processed in a special centrifuge, and is then injected by special instruments into the desired area.

Recovery
There is usually minimal swelling and the after care steps are just as simple and uncomplicated as the procedure. The after care usually involves regular mouth rinsing with Betadine or chlorhexidine antiseptic mouthwash. Normal activities can be resumed straight after the procedure.
The skin will flatten out in a week or two when the suture is absorbed. The internal scarring which takes place will connect the muscle to the skin, creating a dimple.
